Mukesh J. Mowji - Principal, Penta Hospitality. Principal in Penta Hospitality, Mukesh J. Mowji has been successful in the hotel business since 1969, owning and operating several franchised and independent hotels with his family in Alabama, California, and Florida under the company Tuscany Investments (www.tuscanyinvestments.com). Born in Johannesburg, South Africa, Mukesh graduated from California State University in San Francisco with a degree in engineering. In pursuit of higher education, he also attended Santa Clara University for post-graduate courses in computer engineering and California State University - San Jose for management/business administration. Mukesh is also an advisor and investor in a number of hospitality vendor related companies that contribute a broad range of products to the lodging industry.Previously, while partner in the family-owned hotel business, Mukesh served as vice president of Worldwide Sales and Field Operations at LTX Corporation, a NASDAQ listed company. Mukesh spent over 15 years at LTX in various other management positions. Prior to rejoining LTX for a second period, Mukesh worked four years as vice president of marketing and sales at Logic Vision, also a NASDAQ listed company, where he was part of the management team to take the company public. Upon graduating college, Mukesh spent eight years at Schlumberger, a NYSE listed company, serving in various management capacities. Mukesh also served in the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA), a non profit organization, and held various positions including serving as chariman in 2006. Additionally, he has served on the board of the Leuva Patidar Samaj of USA, also a non profit, and a social organization, where he has served in various capacities including that of first vice president 2008.
Mukesh has been a guest lecturer in MBA programs at San Francisco Bay area universities, has written and presented papers and articles, and has been a panelist and moderator on management, social, and high-technology subjects. Mukesh has been invited to speak at many high-profile events. He is very active in community service, humanitarian fundraising, and local and national non-profit organizations, serving on the board of some of these organizations. In August 2007, Mukesh was recognized for entrepreneurship and received an "Award of Recognition for Entrepreneurship" from the FIA of Northern California. In November 2007, Mukesh was recognized for his contribution and service to the hospitality industry and received the 2007 Chairman's Award from the California Lodging Industry Association. Tarun S. Patel, CHA - Principal, Penta Hospitality. A second-generation hotelier, Tarun S. Patel, CHA, is a principal in Penta Hospitality in San Jose, California. He is also the president of Pacific Hospitality Company (www.pachospitality.com), a family-owned, full-service real estate services company specializing in management, development, and investments in the hospitality industry. Tarun has also held various finance executive roles in Fortune 500 Silicon Valley technology companies, including IBM and Cisco. Tarun holds an undergraduate degree in finance and economics from San Diego State University. He also attended postgraduate classes at the Haas School of Business at the University of California, Berkeley in finance and real estate management.Tarun has written several articles for the hospitality industry, and the company has been quoted in Hotel Interactive, AAHOA Lodging Business, and USA Today for expertise in the hospitality real estate industry. He has been a speaker at industry events including the Western Lodging Conference, NABHOOD, HotelWorld Expo, Hunter Conference and the California Lodging Exposition.
Tarun currently serves on the California Lodging Industry Issues Political Action Committee, a venture among state-based associations focusing on increasing the voice of the hospitality industry in the California political landscape. Tarun joined Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA) in 1995 as a future hotelier and has been an active board member ever since. Today, Tarun serves as Vice Chairman of AAHOA (2008-2009) and is co-chair of the Governance/By-Laws Team and the Sponsorship Team. Tarun will be chairman of AAHOA in 2009. [Top]
Anil R. Patel, CHA - Principal, Penta Hospitality. Anil Patel is a principal in Penta Hospitality. He is also the president and sole shareholder of Creataventure Consulting dba CVC Property Investments (CVCPI), which specializes in real estate financing, brokerage and investments. Its company’s emphasis in the residential market is on the acquisition and financing of homes for their clients. On the commercial side, the focus is in the hospitality industry as CVCPI looks to acquire, develop and/or manage hotels. Anil's past experience includes a tenure with the Amin Group which was a series of hotel operations that spanned ownership, management, and development.
A native of Southern California, Anil earned his Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science and Engineering and Bachelor’s of Arts in Economics-Business from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1990. Anil also received a Master’s Degree in Computer Science and an MBA, with an emphasis in Finance and Entrepreneurship, from the University of Southern California (USC). In 1995, Anil received his California Real Estate Broker’s License and his Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA) designation. Upon leaving USC, he started his own real estate consulting business, where he specialized in financing, development, and lending for the hotel and hospitality industry.
Anil’s desire to pursue new business ventures has been evident throughout his successful and diverse career. He co-founded a garment manufacturing company called The Source, with responsibilities in general management, finance and computer system implementation. Before it was sold off, the company specialized in private label sourcing to US companies with garment factories in India, Kenya, Guatemala, Mexico, UAE, and Singapore. [Top]
